I am getting so freaking tired of fundraisers!

So far, I've had two boys selling Buddy cards, one boy selling band candy, and now I have one boy selling Boy Scout popcorn and two boys selling Sally Foster Giftwrapping and Gourmet Foods.

Well, at least Jumper won't have to support through his taxes any programs that we raise funds for by hitting up our colleagues at work.

My co-workers are starting to avoid me.

I refuse to buy anything that isn't sold directly to me by the child that is in the organization raising the funds.

My son was in Cub Scouts and he was selling something (I don't remember), he put tremendous effort into it going door to door in the Neighborhood and spending two afternoon at Publix He asked me to take the stuff to work and see if anyone wanted to buy some. I told him that if I sold the stuff for him then he wouldn't deserve the prize for the most stuff sold if he won.

He ended up coming in third. The mother of the kid that won worked at my company and she badgered everyone for a week or more. When they had the meeting where they gave out the prizes to the kids I not very politely told the Cub Scout master that the prize was a bunch of shit and that I or my son would not participate in any fund raisings in the future.

OOPS, thanks for reminding me. I told some kids that were selling popcorn that I'd buy some if they were out in front of the store again.

I agree, it's better for the kids to do at least a good portion of the selling themselves.

I bought some girlscout cookies from a customer at the place I was working last year. He brought in his daughters cookie sales sheet and sat at the bar selling them. (just a customer, not a friend of mine or anything) Kinda weird to be buying girlscout cookies at a bar. LOL!

But with cool/rainy evenings, I'd rather just post a sign outside my cubicle than go door-to-door. And I don't want my son to go alone.

Heh, heh. My sign says, see AL in cube Y or KP in cube X, THEIR SON is selling stuff.

Back when I was a co-leader of a Campfire Girls' group the kids used to sell candy EVERY year. My co-leader and I (I drove her car) would take her kids and mine (boys & girls alike because we did the same for the boys' Cub Scout troop) out to places like Delhi & Greenhills and over the river to Kentucky to sell the candy. We would drop off the kids somewhere where the houses were fairly close together and Lynne and I would stay in the car. The kids were not allowed to go into any of the houses and one year four of the girls got to go to Camp Firefly for a week, free of charge for selling enough candy. ONE of my daughters managed to get her foot stepped on by a horse while there. [img]graemlins/cry.gif[/img] [img]eek.gif[/img]

Is it me or does anyone else feel akward when walking by something like that out of a grcery store. I mean I just spent 150 or so at the store and walking out and then some little kid comes up and asks if I want to buy a $2 candy bar and I tell him I have no money because hey everything is plastic these days (check cards and my one credit card for emergencies) so then I have to tell him no which in turn makes me feel bad, which causes me to lose focus on my task at hand, which is usually driving home, and then all because I said no to a little kid I end up driving into a bridge embankment.

Funny, that was one of the eye-opening experiences as a kid. I remember working hard to sell whatever it was, candles I think, with limited success, then finding out dorkier classmates had outsold me by a factor of 3 or 4. How in the heck did they do that? My parents never offered to do any selling and it never crossed my mind to ask them. It wasn't until years later that I found out about the game. When my kids were in that mode, I made them go out and have a go at selling. Must admit, I did post a list at work to help them a little, but never applied any pressure on co-workers...

Well, actually they are not truly avoiding me. I'm low key, the only ones I directly hit are those from whom I have bought their kids' sale stuff.

Oh yes, I post a list of Top 10 Reasons to Buy Popcorn from the _________. Did you know that in this election year, popcorn is non-partisan and a great snack for watching debates? And you can feel good about eating it, popcorn is a vegetable. Etc.

I told him that I posted the list on his cube too, he was fine with that. After all, all the people at work know that we have children together. I'll bet it will bug his affair partner, though!
